Introduction
Las Viewer for MAC (“App”) is a versatile utility for viewing LAS files that contain downhole wireline geophysical data. These file are generated in a number of mineral industries including coal, petroleum and gas, and iron ore.
The App was designed for easy visualisation of these files.
Purchases
The free version of this App allow for three user LAS files to be added to the App. Purchasing options are available under the “Las Viewer for MAC” menu at top of screen.
Load a LAS File
Load a LAS file, by clicking on the “Import LAS” button on the menu bar. Browse to the LAS file. You will be presented with a dialog box to select which LAS curves you want to load.
The App maintains a database that persists the data for later use and allows for convenient retrieval as needed.
Upon new data loading, the well name will be shown in the explorer window on the left hand side of the App. To see the curves loaded, press the disclosure triangle on the left hand side of the well.
Project
The app allow for multiple projects to group LAS together. To create a new project, go to the File menu and press the ‘+’ button. Change between project by highlighting the current project and press the ok button.
Display Well data
To display well data, simply select the well from the explorer window. The well will highlight in blue. Then simply, press the Display button on the menu bar. Select the tick boxes of the curves you wish to display and press ok. The curves will appear on screen.
Change curve scale and colours
The database stores a list of curve pneumomics and display defaults for each pneumonic. To change or add a new display default, press the Defaults button on the tool bar. A table will be displayed with all pneumonics stored in the database. Each field is editable.
To change text fields, click on the cell and edit the text. To change the color field, click on the color box, and a colour pick dialog will appear.
A new display default row can be added by clicking the ‘+’ button. Conversely, the selected row can be deleted by pressing the ‘-‘ button.
The curve priority column designates which ‘scale’ grid will be displayed if more than one curve is displayed (i.e. the lowest priority number). Change a curves priority by pressing the up or down button.
A curve priority can be changed by pressing the up or down arrow.
Delete a well or Curve
Select the well or curve and press the delete button on the main toolbar. The data will be deleted from the database.
Information
To find out statistics for the curves in a well, select a well and press the “i” button. You will be presented with a table showing the data statistics for each curve (i.e min, max, average, 5th and 95th percentile).
Zooming and Scrolling
A slider bar at bottom of App allows you to zoom in and out. Scrolling is performed by using the scroll bar at side or by using touch pad.
Export Data
A sub-set of a well can be exported to a LAS file from the File menu. Pick the curves you wish to export and press ok.
A PDF image can also be exported of the currently displayed data, from the File menu.
Bottom Tool Bar
This toolbar displays information for the currently loaded data. It also displays the depth location of the cursor.
